Expanding Foams for Buildings & Construction
Expanding foam from Soudal fills, seals, and insulates gaps around windows, doors, roofing, and service penetrations, using polyurethane systems in gun-grade, aerosol and low-expansion formats. The range covers standard gap-filling foam, fire rated foam, and low-expansion foam for window and door installation, in aerosol, genius and gun-applied cans.

Gun-grade foam gives greater control and less waste than aerosol foam, and a part-used can can be left in the gun and reused rather than discarded. Fire rated foam is tested for fire retardance and forms a seal against fire, smoke and gas, required wherever a gap sits within a fire-rated wall or floor assembly. Low-expansion foam is formulated for window and door frames, filling and insulating without the expansion pressure that may bow a frame. Expanding foam FAQs
What's the difference between expanding foam and fire rated foam?
Standard expanding foam is designed for general gap filling and insulation, with no tested fire performance. Fire rated foam is tested for passive fire and forms a seal against smoke and gas, required wherever the gap sits within a fire-rated wall.
Is expanding foam waterproof?
Cured polyurethane foam is water resistant rather than fully waterproof, and is not a standalone weatherproofing layer. External gaps usually need a compatible sealant or flashing over the cured foam to protect them from the weather and UV exposure.
Can a part-used can of gun foam be reused?
Yes. A gun-grade can can be left fitted to the foam gun and reused over a period, unlike aerosol cans, which are generally single-use once opened.
How long does expanding foam take to cure?
Skin time is generally within 10 to 20 minutes, with full cure within about 24 hours depending on gap depth, temperature, and humidity. Do not trim, load, or paint until fully cured.
